Is transferring from a private school to a public school a big shock?
I have gone to private school all my life and now I'm thinking about going to a public school. Will I feel kinda lost in the crowd since I'm used to being with fewer people?

It can have advantages. You will be given the opportunity to make more friends. If you take advantage of the programs available you will really enjoy it.

It's all up to you. If you put forth the effort you will succeed in public school.

It's really your state of mind if you keep thinking "it sucks, it sucks, it sucks" then guess what. It's gonna suck. If you see it as an opportunity to do something different or interesting then it will be great. If you think "this is great, I'm gonna keep a positive attitude" then the experience will be great.

I hope it works out for you.

Requirements for first aid kits in public school classrooms?

Requirements for first aid kits in public school classrooms?
I've been working in a public school classroom in California and have noticed that their first aid kit is not stocked very well (basically has a few band aids, alcohol wipes and a few gloves). I've been looking online to see if I could find what the requirements are as far as first aid kits in classrooms. Or, are they fine as long as the supplies are in the office?

Check with the schools administrator, coordinator, or nurse. California doesn't have a set standard for first aid kits.

Here are some tips

Here are some tips to help your child

1) Get a head start. Send them to preschool. When they’re ahead they can stay ahead. When they’re behind they have a hard time catching up.
2) Teach them to learn.
3) Give them choices. One that you want them to make and one that they won’t choose.
4) Go to the school to meet with the counselor.
5) Teach them manners. When they’re talking they’re not listening.
6) Teach them respect
7) Mental health is as important as physical health
8) Get sleep
9) Keep a positive attitude. If you think its fun, then it will be fun.

I've been a teacher...

I've been a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 15 years and I have seen a lot of strange things at the schools.

During my time with the LAUSD I made a lot of friends and met a lot of great people. But I have seen students, teachers, staff and administrators do stupid things.

One day will cutting wood a student made a line of sawdust and snorted it like it was a line of cocaine.

I've been very fortunate...

My daughter has been in public school her entire life.

Her many accomplishments inlcude being Valedictorian at her middle school, perfect 4.0 gpa in middle school, accepted to a special program for high school in a California State University, and she has even started a free tutoring company.

This blog will be in my book...
